What is the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA)?

The CICA is a government funded scheme to help innocent victims of crime.

The scheme is designed for people who have suffered injury as a result of a crime of violence – such as an assault. If this has happened to you and you have been unable to take any civil action to recover compensation, because the perpetrators are either unknown or do not have the means to pay, then you could be eligible to make a claim under the scheme.

Compensation for injuries suffered is based on a tariff which sets out a detailed list of injuries of varying seriousness. Compensation can range from £1000 to £500,000.
